How to Measure Shangri-La Blinds:

Decide first if you will be using an Inside or an Outside Mount.

Whenever possible, we recommend an inside (recessed) mount for a more finished appearance. An inside mount requires at between 3 1/4” and 3 5/8” of flat surface depth for flush mounting, although shallow mounts are allowed.

With outside mounts, the shade will hang outside the actual window frame, over lapping the window frame enough to cover for maximum privacy and light blockage.

All shades come with universal brackets which can be used for either inside or outside mounts.

The Headrail must be installed perfectly level and installed evenly to ensure smooth operation.  Headrails require between minimum depths of between 1 1/8” and 3 5/8” for flush inside mounts. Details...

How to Measure Inside Mounts:

  • Print out the Easy Measuring Guide form to write down your measurements.
  • Use a metal tape measure and measure to the nearest 1/8".
  • Width:  Measure the exact inside measurement of the window at three different places, top, middle and bottom. Write the measurements down on the Easy Measuring Guide. Circle and use the narrowest measurement
  • Length: Measure the exact inside distance from top (underside of soffit) to the surface of the window sill at three different places.  Write the measurement down on the Easy Measuring Guide.  Circle the  shortest measurement.
  • Recheck your measurements!
  • Provide exact measurements to the nearest 1/8". We will take the necessary standard deduction for clearance.

On Outside Mounts:
*If there is no sill, measure at least 1 1/2" longer than the bottom of the window (from point A to point B).

For Inside Mounts, use the "inside" lines to measure. For Outside Mounts, use the outside lines to measure.

How to Measure Outside Mounts:

  • Print out the Easy Measuring Guide to write down your measurements.
  • Use a metal tape measure and measure to the nearest 1/8"..
  • Width:  Measure the exact outside measurement of the window at three different places.  Write the measurements down on the Easy Measuring Guide. Plan on overlapping the window.  We recommend about 1 1/2" on each side.
  • Length: Measure the exact outside distance from top to sill at three different places.  Write the measurement down on the Easy Measuring Guide.  Circle the shortest measurement.  If there is no sill, allow the shade to overlap the bottom of the window casing by at least 1 1/2". (from A to B in the diagram above)
  • Recheck your measurements.
  • We make shades for Outside Mounts exactly the length and width you specify.

Note on Specifications:

Due to variations in fabric weave and environmental conditions, the finished dimensions for both widths and lengths may vary plus or minus 1/8” from your order measurement.

Inside mount:

  • Headrail will measure ordered width  minus 3/16”
  • Fabric will measure ordered width minus 1 1/8”

Side (End) Mount:

  • Headrail will measure ordered width  minus 11/16”
  • Fabric will measure ordered width minus 1 5/8”

Outside Mount:

  • Headrail will measure ordered width  plus 3/16”
  • Fabric will measure ordered width minus 3/4”

Exact End to End Mount:

  • Headrail will measure ordered width
  • Fabric will measure ordered width minus 15/16”

Width and length measurements may vary plus or minus 1/8”
Headrail measurement includes end caps

Length Considerations:
Shades are made to the measurement ordered, when the vanes are in the open position.  When the vanes are rotated to the closed position, the shade will be 3/8” longer. On an inside mount, a slight puckering may occur because of contact with the sill. If this happens, raise the shade slightly so it will not touch the sill...
 

New! UltraSleek Head Rail
The new UltraSleek Head Rail is a white aluminum rail with a matching fabric insert, which is coordinated with the fabric of the shade.

The low-profile, continuous cord loop design helps to eliminate the light gap between the shading and the window frame for a clean and seamless visual transition.

This head rail is STANDARD on all Shangri-La Sheer Horizontals up to 84" wide by 84" high.

The UltraSleek Head Rail cannot be motorized.

Deluxe Head Rail
The Deluxe Head Rail is a white aluminum rail with a choice of color coordinated aluminum or fabric inserts. The fabric insert is standard for the Deluxe Head Rail.

The Deluxe Head Rail is required on all Shangri-La Window Shadings over 84" wide by 84" long.

The Deluxe Head Rail can be motorized.The Standard headrail is made of a color coordinated aluminum and comes standard unless otherwise specified. The Deluxe headrail is a white aluminum with a choice of color coordinated fabric inserts.  The inserts are available in the 12 colors for Classic sheer shadings. 



The UltraSleek HeadRail is made of a color coordinated aluminum and comes standard unless otherwise specified.

Inside Mount:
Minimum depth for flush inside mount including the installation brackets: 2 3/4”

Shallow Mount:
Minimum depth required for mounting: 1 1/8”

Side Mount:
Minimum depth for side mount: 1 1/8”
Maximum shading width for side mount: 48”

Outside Mount:
Minimum surface area required for mounting:  1”

Deluxe Headrail
 The Deluxe Headrail is white aluminum with a choice of color coordinated aluminum or fabric inserts.  The aluminum strip comes standard unless other wise specified.  This headrail is required for for shadings longer than 96”, but is available at no additional charge upon request for all sizes.

Inside Mount:
Minimum depth for flush inside mount including the installation brackets: 3 5/8”

Shallow Mount:
Minimum depth required for mounting: 3/4”

Side Mount:
Minimum depth for side mount: 1 1/4”
Maximum shading width for side mount: 48”

Outside Mount:
Minimum surface area required for mounting:  3/4”
